Safety is not optional. That includes correct load distribution, fire safety requirements and protection against the weather for outdoor installations. Plan enough time for the build so that testing, alignment and any troubleshooting happen before the event starts, not during it.
Buying pays off when you plan to use the wall regularly or permanently: a fixed installation in a venue, in retail, at trade shows or for your own company events. In those cases ownership brings long term economics and planning certainty. It also lets you tailor the system to your own technical and design requirements, from specific formats and resolutions to the control system.

Projectors are considerably cheaper to buy or rent, easy to transport and quick to set up and pack down. That makes them ideal for occasional presentations, workshops or meetings at changing locations.
In smaller rooms, or where the setup is not permanent, a projector is a practical solution as long as you can control the light. Unlike an LED wall, a projector depends heavily on ambient brightness, and in daylight or outdoors it reaches its limits quickly.
For simple applications where image quality, brightness and flexibility are not the deciding factors, a projector is often the more pragmatic and cost effective choice.
LED walls usually cost more to buy, but they win on running costs across their whole service life. Thanks to rugged construction, a long life (often 50,000 to 100,000 hours) and minimal maintenance, they are particularly economical in regular or permanent use. There are also no follow up costs for consumables such as lamps or filters.
Projectors are cheaper to buy but often more expensive to run. That includes regular lamp changes (every 2,000 to 6,000 hours depending on the model), maintenance to remove dust and, at some point, replacing worn parts. Electricity costs can be higher too, especially with high output models.
Bear in mind as well that projectors degrade faster under less than ideal conditions, for example strong ambient light or frequent relocation, which in turn means more replacements and repairs.
